In an effort to conserve our edible resources, cosmetically perfect fruits and vegetables are making way for those that are less than beautiful. Misshapen, oddly formed and downright ugly produce has become the darling of the food world.
The campaign started in France where concerns over food waste and hunger propelled a supermarket chain to market and sell their Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables to make a statement against the 300 million tons of food that is thrown out each year. What was once discarded and labeled as unusable is one of 2015’s hot food trends.
