Refreshing Summer Smoothies

delicious smoothieIt’s usually about this time of year that I give up my traditional steel cut oatmeal breakfast with fruit for a delicious and refreshing smoothie. The berries are so tasty in summer, and it’s so hot out that it just sounds good. Not to mention that because you can throw so many fruits and veggies in a blender and sip, you can really rock out that fruit and veggie serving intake without even noticing it. (In fact, we have a fruit and veggie challenge going on for June, if you want to join—would love to have you!)

While I love my “smooth smoothies,” lately I’ve been switching it up, with the help of Fitness magazine. They’ve hipped me to putting kiwi, peanut butter and tea in my smoothie (not all together though; that would be, er, interesting and not in a good way). Flip through the recipes—you might just find something new to try and love, too!

Refresh your smoothie!

Spinach, frozen strawberries, frozen banana, peanut butter, cocoa powder, protein powder

Blend all of that together and it is smoothie BLISS!

I usually mix really ripe bananas with frozen cherries and blue berries. Other than one banana per person, I just add ingredients by guess and by gosh. It’s still my favorite, though cantaloupe and frozen grapes mixed with banana is yummy too.
