I’ve already declared that wellness coaching is the next big thing and that true change isn’t easy, but in my third post in this series aboutmy experience with wellness coach Terri Robery, I’m here to tell you that the proof is in the pudding. The delicious life-changing pudding. The pudding that starts as a few ideas to increase your energy, decrease your work load and live more and ends up as a tasty dessert—you living your dream.

As some of you know, for more than two and a half years, I worked a demanding, full-time job in addition to running and writing for FBG. That meant that not only was I regularly putting in 50 to 60 hours a week, but also that I was pretty stressed and drained. My passion for FBG always pulled me through and kept me going, but this past summer I began to feel more than just tired, impatient and burnt out. I also felt like a fraud. Here I am, preaching all things in moderation each and every day and what am I? A workaholic. Sure, I still ate well and got my workouts in, but was I taking time out for me? Was I fresh? Happy? Loving life? Not like an FBG should be.

So when I first met with Terri, my work-life balance issues quickly surfaced, and we immediately started working on steps for me to work less, even toying with the idea of me working part-time. Financial concerns (darn money!) and my fear of leaving a stable career I enjoyed most of the time, made it seem like leaving my job was light years (and dreams) away. But within just a few months of small steps, there I was, handing my boss my resignation letter. It. Was. Amazing.

I am now truly living my dream. I work a sane amount of hours. My stress isn’t constant. I can see my friends and family more. I’m sleeping 8 hours a night. I’m far less cranky. And best of all? My life fuels and energizes me. I am working directly with people to change lives (FBG Weight-Loss Challenges, what what!), I’m freelance writing more, and I’m doing some marketing consulting work. Basically, I get to do the things I love all while devoting my most cherished time to FBG.

I could not have made the jump without Terri’s help. She was instrumental to me jumping into the deep end and learning that, you know what, I can swim just fine. Now I’m not saying that working with a wellness coach will fix all of your problems or allow you tell your boss to “stick it” tomorrow, but what I am saying is that the sky is the limit when you dream big and have someone on your side to help you see the forest through the trees, while also keeping you accountable. (And, yes, I’m done with the cheesy clichés.)

A big, BIG thanks to my wellness coach Terri Robery! Woman, you changed my life! —Jenn

Cost seems to be a big hangup for me. Were these services pretty affordable?

I need a wellness coach!!!! Cost is a factor though…

  3. Thanks so much for sharing! I’ve worked with coaches at various times and they have always helped me! Balancing the work, family, friends, health, fitness, soul medicine, rest thing is always a challenge – and I need to revisit it fairly often (uh, like daily). I used to think if I worked, loved, played in balance in a month, then I would be in balance. But I’m learning that I need to work, love, and play in balance every day.

Thanks again for sharing – your timing is good because a professional friend of mine has assembled a group of powerful women and a coach this weekend for a pow-wow. It is much needed 😉

Some coaches will work with you when it comes to cost. Coaching doesn’t have to break the bank.
