Trying the Line Cheryl Burke Loves: Ideology Activewear (and Giveaway!)

cheryl burkeJust when I start to think that all workout clothes are about the same, a line comes out that makes me wonder: who are all of these people designing cool new apparel for workouts that are both fashionable and functional? It’s seriously no easy feat, but one that keeps being done. Case in point: Macy’s Ideology Activewear line. Endorsed by Dancing With the Stars’ Cheryl Burke, it’s just the right mix of stretch, comfort and sweat-wicking awesomeness.

With a bit of a dance-inspired flare to it (hence Cheryl), the line is great for yoga, Pilates, barre and other workouts where you move and groove. I tried the Ideology Scoop Neck Ruched Tank Top ($34) and was amazed at how soft it was. Not quite like a kitten, but definitely not like most Dri-Fit shirts. And while it was super stretchy, the ruching on it (Macy’s has the ruched look down, man!) was pretty flattering—although you may want to order a size up if you don’t want a super-tight fit and/or you carry extra weight in your middle.

However, Ideology is no one- trick pony. The line has plenty of tanks and shorts well suited to other fitness pursuits like walking, running and weight-lifting. Which brings me to the second piece the company sent me: the Seamless Solid Sports Bra ($12.99). When I first got it, it looked like it was sized for a teen, not a broad-chested lady like myself, so I was super skeptical. But again, the stretch. Still super soft, once I put it on it was surprisingly comfortable, breathable (I didn’t feel like a stuffed sausage) and yet it support my boobies super well during any high-impact activity I tested it with (jump roping, running, burpees).

While on the whole, nothing in the line is particularly remarkable from a cuteness perspective, the fabric alone is cool enough that it’s worth checking out the next time you’re at Macy’s. Especially if there’s a sale…

Do you like soft and stretchy apparel when it comes to workouts? Or do you like something with a bit more structure? Tell us, and we’ll select two lucky readers to win a piece from the Ideology Activewear line! We have a size small ruched tank (as seen above) up for grabs, along with a medium T-shirt. Be sure to tell us which one you prefer, and we’ll select a U.S. reader to win in about a week! —Jenn

Since the tank would not fit me, I would be interested in the t-shirt if I won.

soft and stretchy apparel is great for me over a nice supportive sports bra. That price of 12.99 for the bra is awesome and I am heading there right now to purchase one. Thanks for the review !!

well.. I was going to purchase one, until I saw that shipping was $10. Maybe I can find it in the store instead.

  5. Anna says:

I’d love the small tank! For my workout clothes, I prefer soft for shirts and shorts, but I need industrial strength bras!

  6. Lindsay says:

I like structured items, but structured for a reason – compression gear with knee support, an awesome sports bra, etc.

  7. SarahGo says:

I like soft and stretchy definitely. And soft yoga pants are must!

  8. Amanda says:

I would love the small tank! Working out in tanks lets me show off my arms 🙂

  9. Kelly N. says:

The small tank sounds great! Love wearing soft clothes when I workout.

I’m a middle of the road chick, depending on my workout that day. If it’s weights or low impact, I’m all about soft and sometimes a little loose fitting. If it’s cardio, high energy, or HIIT, I’m all about the anti-jiggly bits kind of clothing. It’s gotta hold onto the parts that I wanna belt sand to get rid of. I also have to wear high-waist shorts/pants on days I know I’ll be doing push ups or ab work on my suspension trainer so I know it can control and contain my mom pouch. (Which I totally wanna file a complaint against since I can’t ACTUALLY put anything in it.)
I’d love the Tee shirt, since I never plan to be in a small shirt. Only because I have linebacker shoulders and apparently the rib cage diameter to go with them. 🙂

  11. Rebecca Perhanidis says:

I desperately need new work out clothes!

  12. I like stretchy as long as it lends support. I hate when I do a downward dog, or squat thrusts and the girls fall out of the top of my bra. I’d love to try one of these and see if they hold the girls in place upside down! 🙂

  13. Ivori says:

I would like the size small ruched tank please !

I like apparel with structure, that way I can focus on my posture while working out, and not the bits of my body that hang over 🙂

  14. Katy says:

    Cute!
Although I’d love the tank, if I want to wear it, I would take the medium tee 🙂

  15. Vicki says:

I love stretch WITH structure, like fitted yoga pants. They are my favorite thing to work out in! I would LOVE a medium ruched tank!

  16. Dorie says:

I would love the small tank. I have really sensitive skin, so I’m prone to chafing and irritation during workouts, so the soft fabric sounds like something I *need* to try! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  17. Melissa says:

I normally prefer soft to work out in. I do Zumba and weights and need to be able to move and not be encumbered by my clothing. And I sweat so I need something moisture wicking for sure!

Thanks for the chance and I’d like the tshirt if I win.
