6. The Step Up Club. The Step Up Club is a running and walking club for K-8 students organized by the Greater Evansville Runners/Walkers Club of Indiana. Step Up Clubs are in a number of schools, churches and other organizations in the area, led by volunteer directors and leaders who provide instruction, materials and rewards for participating. Smaller clubs, with 30 or less participating children and one leader, are provided all of the necessary supplies at no cost. The goal of The Step Up Club is to improve the health and fitness of children by emphasizing that fitness can be fun, and is an activity that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. In addition to improving their health, regular physical activity has been shown to improve academic performance, self-esteem, energy levels, focus and concentration.
How you can get involved: You can volunteer to be a leader of a Step Up Club in the Indiana area. As a leader you will be fully supported by the Step Up Club and assigned a director who will help the program succeed by providing instruction, materials and incentive prizes. Find out more here.
