Yoga 101: Learning to Fly with Baby Crow
For this month’s installment of Yoga 101, we decided to shake things up a bit. Having already covered several basic yoga poses, I was inspired this time to break down something that’s, well, a little more fun and exciting. Let’s face it, every once in awhile it’s great to have a little fun with your practice and do something a little more whimsical.
And just like all the Yoga 101 posts, instead of focusing on what you think the pose should look like, we’re gonna focus on actions and potential.
By “actions,” I mean the stuff that’s going on in your body, such as which muscles are working and which ones are stretching. By “potential,” I’m referring to you, silly — your potential.
Look, we don’t all nail these poses the first time we give them a whirl. So today I’m gonna ask you to let the space between where you are now and where you want to be inspire you rather than frustrate you.
And for goodness sake, smile, laugh and have fun with it. There’s no need to take it all so seriously.
Learn to Fly in Baby Crow
Baby Crow Pose is arguably one of the most accessible arm balances for beginners and it’s a super fun way to build the body awareness and strength necessary for more advanced poses, like Crow Pose (Bakasana) and Forearm Balance (Pincha Mayurasana).
In this video, we’ll walk you through a few simple prep poses to help you focus on the actions necessary for take-off. Once you’ve got those down, we’ll break it down step-by-step and set you free to explore your own potential.
Oh yeah, and I dare you not to smile while doing this.
Be sure to check out our past Yoga 101 posts for tips to find your flow in Mountain Pose, Downward-Facing Dog, Chaturanga and Sun A.

That was a great demo on crow. I am an instructor and I like the baby crow as a great Stepping stone to The crow pose.
