Pumpkin Spice Everything: New Healthier Ways to Get Your Fix
My poor little Fit Bottomed heart was broken a few years ago when I learned that Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte contained milk. Like many people, I love pumpkin spice everything — but I’m also dairy-free. So every year at this time, like so many others, I’m on the lookout for new ways to add a little more pumpkin spice to my life.
In recent years, food and beverage manufacturers have really been upping their game when it comes to their seasonal offerings. And it’s beyond awesome because I look forward to pumpkin spice season, like, all year long.
Here’s a few of the ways I’m getting my pumpkin spice fix lately.
Califia Farms Pumpkin Spice Latte
Start your morning off with a little PSL without the trip to the coffee shop. This delicious beverage is vegan and free of dairy, gluten and soy, and it contains only half the sugar and fat of the original PSL.
I love that it’s made with cold brew coffee so it’s smoother, less acidic, and way easier on the stomach. I’m also really loving that it’s not too sweet. Seriously the best PSL alternative I’ve tried.
RXBAR Pumpkin Spice
An excellent way to get your pumpkin spice fix any time of day. This little bar contains 12 grams of protein — making it a great post-gym snack to shove in your gym bag — and tastes amazing. Like all the other flavors of RXBAR, it contains a very simple list of ingredients — all things you can easily pronounce. It’s paleo and free of dairy, soy and gluten. The folks in my CrossFit box literally have a Facebook thread going to share grocery store sightings on this RXBAR flavor. We’re on a mission to buy them all and stockpile them for later.
Daiya Pumpkin Spice Cheezecake
Dairy-free desserts don’t get much better than this. I’m already a big fan of Daiya’s other dairy-free products, especially their cheezecakes (key lime cheezecake is unreal). When I heard about their seasonal pumpkin spice variety, I literally drove all over the county hitting up every local grocery store in search of them. As soon as I got it home, thawed it out, and opened the package, I could smell that it was gonna be a winner. It’s dense, rich, and so creamy with just the right amount of pumpkin and spice. It’s also free of dairy, gluten and soy. This will be an annual thing in my house for sure.
What’s your pumpkin spice go-to? Or are you over this autumnal trend? —Alison
