Time to Say Bye-Bye
When you’re saying goodbye to something that’s been part of your life for more than eight years, it’s hard to come up with just the right title. So when this children’s book title popped into my head, I wrote it down before realizing that it’s actually the perfect title for this post.
In the book, which is one of those we’ve checked out so frequently from the library that all of my kids have memorized it, a child is playing at the park. Of course the time comes when she has to leave the park: “I don’t want to leave, but it’s time to say bye-bye.” The refrain repeats throughout the book as the child goes about her day — leaving grandma’s, stopping for dinner, getting out of the bath.
It’s a phrase that’s ingrained in my head from reading it, but in this situation I mean it: I don’t want to leave, but the time has come for me to move on from the Fit Bottomed World. It wasn’t a decision I made lightly — how can it be when you’ve poured your heart and soul into starting something like this (gestures madly around).
I’m not entirely certain what my next step will be. I’ve been accepted to a graduate school program; I may also do something completely different. But one thing I know for certain is that this site has been my therapy, my outlet for some complex emotions and a place to throw down some humor (I hope). It’s been the place I shared my kids’ birth stories and the place I vented about lack of sleep. It’s been a friend, and it’s hard to leave internet spaces AND real people I love.
But don’t worry — it will continue to be a place you can come for an internet hug, a “we’ve been there too” look of commiseration and a you-go-girl high-five when you manage to fit a workout and a shower into nap time. Fit Bottomed Mamas will carry on, so don’t stop stopping by. I know I definitely won’t.
