Water doesn’t have to be boring. You just need the right water recipe! Credit: derekGavey

Now introducing Thirsty Thursday! Every Thursday for the next few weeks, we’ll be doing a series of posts on Fit Bottomed Girls and Fit Bottomed Mamas that have been sponsored by alkaStream and focus on water, hydration and healthFor our sponsored-post policy, click here

Last Thursday we shared our review of the alkaStream water-filtration and alkaline system and, as promised, today we’re going to tell you how you can win one for yourself! In many ways, water gets a bad rap for being boring. Sure, it’s tasteless. And  it doesn’t exactly excite your tastebuds as, say, soda or juice (or wine) might, but most of your body is made up of water. So wouldn’t you want to drink as close to the real thing as you can? Water that isn’t just clean…but is also really rich in minerals and antioxidants. Water that can actually improve your health and your workouts

But water doesn’t have to be plain! Whether you add fruit, veggies, herbs or other goodies to your glass, there are SO MANY ways to jazz water up. But instead of us just telling you how to snazzy up your water, we thought we’d gather the best water recipes from you guys, our darling creative FBG readers! Leave a comment with your favorite water recipe, and we’ll select the best (aka most creative and refreshing) ones to become finalists to win a free alkaStream system (a value of $329!) in next Thursday’s post!

So get your creative juices flowing (get it?!), and let’s hear those delicious and healthy water recipes! —Jenn

It’s simple really: crushed fresh mint leaf, water.

  2. Corey Cooper says:

Depending on the season, I love to make ice cubes with blueberries or mint leaves frozen in them and add to water glass. Or in the fall, I make a thyme reduction and a tiny bit to my water. Next I’m trying a chili oil!!

  3. TS says:

A splash of lemon and tart cherry juice =)
    Cucumber and mint

  4. Jenna Z says:

I’m a sucker for sparkling water! I love the new coconut flavor of La Croix! But you can easily make your own with 8 ounces of plain sparkling water and a splash of coconut water. Yum!!

  5. sophie says:

strawberry and kiwi slices, or go simple with squeezed lime wedges. yum!

  6. Lindsay says:

Extremely simple. Not at all. Water tastes perfectly amazing and satisfying on it’s own.

  7. Nicole says:

the cheap version of a lemonade…lemon juice & splenda:) & if you are feeling crazy- lime juice!

    sliced ginger and lemon slices

I use a mandolin to slice a cucumber extra thin — then put the sliced in a pitcher with ice & water — there’s something really refreshing about the cucumber flavored water and the smell as you’re drinking it … Ahhhh!

I have been drinking so much more water since I have been adding truelemon. It is delicious!!

  11. Joy says:

In the summer I drink gallons of iced tea. 😉 But for workouts? Fill bottle of water, drop in one Nuun tablet. That’s about as fancy as I manage!

  12. cindy says:

sweet grapefruit seed oil. 2 drops per liter. Food grade only. It helps to detox. I also love cinnamon essential food grade oil. Yum.

  13. Amrita says:

slices of grapefruit and basil leaves in a big tank of chilled water!

  14. Julie N says:

Thinly slice 5 key limes and one cucumber (both organic, if possible) and place in a gallon pitcher. Bruise a few sprigs of lemon thyme and add if you are so fortunate as to grow it! Fill pitcher with water and refrigerate for a couple hours to let flavors blend while water chills. Enjoy!

To cool off after a day in the heat or after a workout, add 1C of cold water and a glass of crushed ice to your blender. Throw in 2 mini-cukes (sliced), a handful of spinach leaves (a few parsley and mint leaves are good too), and a few chunks of celery hearts. Blend until slushy! Drink up, and it’ll give you goosebumps while it rehydrates you, with some vitamins to boot!

  16. Kathleen says:

I use water with lemon or lime slices in it and just put it in a fancy wine glass.

  17. Karla says:

I loooooove citrus flavors so whenever I feel like drinking just water is too bland for me I add to it orange, lemon and lime, specally lemons, one slice of each to every glass. When I feel to lazy to cut the oranges, lemons and limes up I got to my pantry and grab one of my MIOs. Either the strawberry-kiwi flavor or the sweet tea flavor. With no sugar added and no calories is really just falvored water. I feel like I’m drinking juice but getting hydrated…

  18. Kellie says:

I love the combination of a fresh slice of ginger and a wedge or 2 of grapefruit. It’s bright, refreshing and unique. Ginger root will keep for at least a year in the freezer. Just shave off a thin slice to add to your glass. It’s excellent with orange, lime and lemon too, but grapefruit is my favorite. Yum.

  19. Alexandra says:

My favorite water recipe is Strawberries (about 5) a handful of spinach mixed in a blender with water and ice. The flavor isn’t heavy like a “smoothie” so it’s super refreshing and the combination of the strawberries and spinach is great for an energy boost!

  20. Cindy Bearman says:

I add a few dried hibiscus flowers. The water becomes a vibrant color and tastes delicious. Makes me feel like I’m drinking something special!
In the summer I love to puree fresh watermelon, muddle some mint in the bottom of a glass and top it off with sparkling water. So refreshing!

  21. Caroline Powell says:

    Water recipe
    -cucumbers sliced thinly
    -sliced strawberries
    -3 lavender springs
-one half of a lemon, sliced

I put this in a water pitcher about 30 to 45minutes before I have guests over. They always love it more than juice or soda!

  22. Michelle Shogren says:

    Rehydration Surprise:
Juice one half of a fresh lime
Juice one half of a fresh lemon
    5-7 Rasberries
    1-3 mint leaves
    Ice cubes

Bruise the mint leaves and put in bottom of a tall glass
Add the juice from lemon and lime
Drop in rasberries or berries of your choice
    Add ice
Fill to the top with water
This is so fresh and delicious. The mint will make you feel cool, while the citrus gives you a burst of energy. And when you finish the glass, there is fresh fruit that has soaked up a hint of minty lemon flavor that tastes interesting and delicious. Water with a twist! So refreshing 🙂 ENJOY!

  23. Merry Graham says:

The most refreshing water comes from mixing a gallon of water with about 8 organic rose petals, 3 springs of lemon thyme, and 1/2 of a lemon, sliced. cover and set aside for 1 hour before serving on ice!

  24. Jan says:

Lemongrass & Thai Basil – 1 stalk of lemongrass (remove the outer layer and slice into rounds) and torn Thai basil leaves. Allow to infuse in a pitcher of water in the refrigerator. It’s refreshing!

  25. Cristy King says:

Drain the liquid from a 20 oz can of pineapple chunks. Place pineapple chunks on a cookie sheet and freeze until firm ( I like mine semi-frozen like a slushie, but it’s up to you). Drop several frozen chunks into a glass of water. Garnish with mint leaves if desired. This is delicious if you make a pitcher and let it sit in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.
